Environmental Engineering
Our philosophy lies firmly in minimal infrastructure for maximum impact.
We will be employing numerous soft engineering techniques across the site, ranging from the establishment of swales, water catchment basins and replanting critical zones.
However, in some locations hard engineering practices will be utilised due to the environment or their perceived impact.
One example of this will be offshore breakwaters. Along the line where seagrass meadows meet the coral reefs we will instal a series of breakwaters, these will never protrude above the water line and therefore will not become an eyesore. They will however serve two major functions, one being an attachment point for future coral reefs and the second being a mechanical means to reduce wave action in the seagrass meadows.
This will increase the rate of deposition within the lagoon which in turn will allow for the propagation of seagrass and the rebuilding of beaches behind the brakes.
